Selection evidence
- The Thistle Archive: Port Glasgow reference, October 14, 1899
Eleven Port Glasgow names support an Estimated January 6 selection. James McCabe is kept match-only because the later Motherwell reference uses the same name: exact identity and January 6 club affiliation have not been resolved. Existing Motherwell records are unchanged; no cross-club merge.
- The Thistle Archive: Ayr reference, October 21, 1899
Eleven Ayr names support an Estimated January 6 selection. Lynn remains surname-only and match-only. Tom Wills and Sam Aitken retain the published short forms; no invented expansions. Ayr is the period club, not Ayr United.

Credit: John Litster / The Thistle Archive. The verified season table supplies retrospective full-season budgets. Two points for a win and one for a draw; clubs level on points share their placing. This supersedes the generic goal-average convention for these SFL2 desks. No historical opening league ledger is created.

Direct embedded table inspected: Hamilton 33 for / 47 against; Leith 33 for / 37 against. These values are used here. Other sources print Hamilton 45 or 46 against and Leith 32 for; the discrepancy remains unresolved. Every derived rating remains an Estimate, not a measured January 6 ability.
