NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 3.—The Gotham Monoliths have made their first entry in Fury Football’s league book a particularly heavy one: fifty-four points, a thirty-point margin, and a victory away from home.

Gotham defeated the New Orleans Big Fun, 54–24, to begin 1–0 in the National Conference. New Orleans starts 0–1. The result completes both of the day’s Fury Football fixtures and gives the founding season its third official game.

Gotham pours on twenty-seven in the fourth

The Monoliths scored eighteen in the first quarter, six in the second and a three-point kick in the third to lead 27–0. New Orleans finally answered with twenty-four fourth-quarter points, but Gotham added twenty-seven in the same period to win 54–24. The Gotham ledger records three offensive touchdowns and thirty-three conversion points.

Names in the scorebook

Sweetan, No. 2 recorded two offensive touchdowns, nine conversion points and seventeen net offensive field spaces. Hodge, No. 20 supplied another touchdown and four net spaces, while Christian, No. 43 has a sack and loss stop. New Orleans’ Gruber, No. 97 has three recorded conversion points and two net offensive spaces. Unnamed scoring plays remain team totals.

Two games, two very different headlines

The day’s other contest supplied a narrow escape: Los Angeles erased a 24–0 deficit and beat Atlantic, 30–27. Gotham’s final margin tells a different story. The Monoliths finished thirty points clear, the widest winning margin among the season’s first three games.

Fifty-four is also the largest team total in those three contests. New Orleans’ twenty-four points were no small entry, but Gotham’s return was more than twice as large. The Big Fun have a result to answer; the Monoliths have a standard to maintain.

The founding appointments meet the standings

The inaugural coach draft assigned Bull Walsh to Gotham and Nick Powers to New Orleans. Their clubs now have their first regular-season records alongside those appointments. In a league that began with thirty teams and thirty clean slates, the first distinctions are finally being written in numbers.

Three games do not settle a sixteen-game season. They do give the newspaper something sturdier than predictions: Cleveland’s opening victory, Los Angeles’ remarkable recovery, and now Gotham’s emphatic fifty-four.
