MONDAY, JANUARY 8, 1900THE MONDAY EDITION · VOLUME I
Sunday’s completed league slate · January 7

Seven finals close the sporting week.

Southern California and British Columbia shut out their opponents; New York turns four goals into six points. On the Fury field, Gulf Coast escapes by one, while Chicago and Seattle answer in the final period. Monday opens with three new XHL appointments—and fresh ink from both correspondents.

Sunday’s dispatches

Seven finals · Two leagues
XHL · Southern California 7, Memphis 0

The Undertow leaves Memphis without an answer.

Southern California supplies Sunday’s largest XHL margin, seven scoring points to none. Hub Cossa records three goals and an assist; Nick Concannon adds a goal and three assists. Each finishes with four player points.

Seven physical goals account for Southern California’s seven scoring points. The result is an official league final; shot totals and a complete goalkeeper line are not supplied by the scoring ledger.

XHL · New York 6, Quebec 1

Four Gargoyle goals are worth six.

New York wins 6–1 at Quebec. Its score is built from four physical goals, two carrying the league’s additional point. Lex Fegley and Billy Buitron each record one two-point goal.

Aaron Sandstrom and Colt Kelley each add a goal and an assist. The difference between goals and scoring points belongs in the account: four pucks in the net, six points on the board.

XHL · British Columbia 4, Houston 0

The Grizzlies complete a second shutout.

British Columbia defeats Houston 4–0. Ryan Nadeau scores twice; William Nylander and Angie Garraway supply the other goals.

The Grizzlies’ four physical goals are worth four scoring points. With Southern California’s 7–0 result, Sunday’s XHL slate closes with two clubs keeping their opponents off the scoreboard.

Fury Football · All four January 7 fixtures complete

A narrow escape, then two late answers.

Gulf Coast withstands Atlanta, 15–14. The Gems turn a 9–5 interval deficit into a 14–9 lead, only for the Splash to reclaim the advantage with a third-period touchdown.

Chicago trails Washington 12–9 after three periods, then collects twelve unanswered points to win 21–12. Seattle enters the fourth one point behind Dallas and finishes 17–9 ahead.

Nashville’s 18–9 victory over Pacific, played early and retained on its January 7 date, completes the four-game Sunday book. All fifteen Fury finals now have full recorded scorebooks.

The Last Period Is No Place for Predictions

By Franklin “Frank” Mercer

The score at three periods is an interesting piece of news, but an unreliable obituary. Chicago and Seattle furnish the argument; Gulf Coast supplies the one-point warning.

Before the Next Ball Is Bowled

A fixture in the calendar is not a result in the book. Sydney’s cricket session and an Ohio basketball offering require care before the next chapter can be written.
