The historical race
The New Zealand Herald lists Gray Brothers first, Messrs. Pogler second, and Day and Council third. Pegler is the provisional normalization used for the second crew; Council remains a provisional reading. Newspaper placings are source evidence, separate from the ASN result above.
The race was for Waiheke settlers in Waiheke boats. Its course ran from the southern flagboat, round Frenchman’s Cap kept to port, then back to the line between flagship and shore boathouse. Rudder-only steering was required. Crew size, steering personnel, measured distance, exact geometry and total starter count are unavailable. The reconstruction represents the three placed crews named in the report.
Reconstruction and recording
Equal estimated C-20-D ratings were fixed before play. The established 40-turn small-field adaptation ignores empty D6 lanes without reroll, moves duplicate selections once and retains the desk’s finish rules. Boat class, turns and rudder steering are abstracted without additional performance modifiers. No elapsed time is invented.
Six supported Waiheke rowing races are complete. The remaining Māori dinghy race is skipped by owner decision: Not enough historical data to run. Five starters are reported but only three finishers are named; the reported protest has no verified ruling. No unnamed opponents or protest outcome are invented. The wider programme is not declared complete, and TEST results remain excluded.
