Twenty-five rounds brought no stoppage at the Hercules Athletic Club. Isadore “Izzy” Strauss earned the majority verdict over Matty Matthews, carrying two cards, 238–234 and 237–235. The remaining judge returned a 236–236 draw.

There was little room to spare. All three scorecards stood level after eighteen rounds, 170–170. After the twentieth, one judge favoured each man and the third was even. Strauss won the twenty-first and twenty-second on every card, but Matthews answered with a unanimous 10–8 twenty-third. That left the judges divided once more: one for Strauss, one for Matthews, and one level.

Strauss took the last two rounds by unanimous 10–9 scores. The closing pair secured the majority decision and brought the third card back to a draw.

Strauss won fourteen rounds by the judges’ majority and Matthews eleven. Three rounds were scored unanimously 10–8: the fourth and twenty-third for Matthews, the seventh for Strauss. Those scores do not, by themselves, establish knockdowns.

ASN calculated full-career fighter cards using the creator supplied by John Turnbull of Powder Blue Sports. The scoring arrangements were reconstructed within the creator’s target tolerance. These two cards were not separately rated or approved by John, and no claim is made that they represent each boxer’s form specifically in January 1900. Historical career records do not enter ASN replay totals.

The 25-round scheduled distance is recorded in BoxRec bout 492854, which lists the historical finish as 12/25. The original contemporary scheduled-distance notice was not inspected. January 8 is supported by the IBRO July 2012 record, page 39. The historical result was not scripted into the replay.

All twenty-five recorded rounds were checked against the accepted result. Punch totals and knockdown counts are unavailable. Strauss has no verified supplied portrait.
